Without a doubt SEO is the most important piece of a WordPress Blog, excluding the content of course. But if you have amazing content does it even matter if no one is there to read it. Without SEO you leave a lot of traffic left unserved.

With that being said, SEO is not the easiest of thing to do.Here are the WordPress settings to use that will make it just a little easier.

Set Your Search Engine Visibility

One of the first things that you need to do is visit the Settings / Reading section in the wp-admin of your site. Make sure the Search Engine Visibility is unchecked ( See Below)

Fix Your Permalinks

The permalink structure defines how each individual URL that’s part of your WordPress site will be constructed. By default, WordPress uses the following structure:

This isn’t the best SEO option because it doesn’t allow you to include any keywords into the URL itself.

The best SEO option for permalinks is:

• Post name – example: http://YOURSITE.com/sample-post/

Remove Dummy Content

After uploading a WordPress Theme you purchased from Theme Zeus you will notice WordPress comes with some dummy content.

Begin by deleting all of that. This is bad for your WordPress SEO.
Also, delete any piece of content that occurs more than once. Depending on your theme, this can be some category content, or example – demo – blog posts.

Connect your site to Google Search Console

GSC is a great resource that can give you an insight into various aspects of your site’s SEO health. Some of the things you can get:

  • List of any crawl errors found on your site and instructions on how to fix them.
  • Security issues.
  • The status of your site in the Google index.

The most commonly used keywords that lead to your site.

Set Your Site Title and Tagline

Your site’s title and tagline are very important for your SEO in WordPress. They appear multiple times throughout the site in different places. It is important for them to be optimized and mention your most important keywords.

Adjust this in the Settings / General section of the wp-admin:
